Bring Your Chair to the Square -- A Creative Community Project
•Posted on January 03 2026
Daniel and I moved to Groveton six months ago, and we were instantly smitten with the small-town charm and the genuinely welcoming spirit of this community. It felt like night and day compared to Kingwood—the bustling suburban dream we left behind about 90 miles south.
Life here is more laid back, a little slower, and full of people who truly value real connections. From the very beginning, Groveton just felt sweeter and more comfortable than the congested roads and breakneck pace we were used to.

In the suburbs, it seemed like everywhere you went there was a group, a club, or a meetup happening. Parks were always buzzing with homeschool families, gyms were packed with CrossFit crews, and weekend parking lots overflowed with antique car enthusiasts. It was busy—always something going on and people everywhere.
I didn’t move to the country with any intention of changing how things were done or shaking things up. But when I thought about what I loved most about living around lots of people, it always came back to the same thing: gathering with like-minded friends to create, share, and celebrate the things we love.
After we settled in, I quickly realized there weren’t any local crafting or quilting groups right here in town—and that sparked an idea. I started reaching out to fellow crafters and invited them to gather at the shop once a month to craft, enjoy some good company, and take a few hours to relax and get to know their neighbors.
Our first Bring Your Chair to the Square crafting club met in November 2025, and it was an absolute hit. Twelve wonderful ladies showed up, and we laughed, stitched, made Christmas ornaments, and sipped coffee—thanks to our sweet neighbors at The Grove Coffee & Crafts for staying open late for us. We unfolded our squeaky chairs and set up right in the Main Street Square parking lot. It was simple, cozy, and honestly kind of magical.

As we look ahead to our second meeting this month (December was just a little too busy for everyone), I’m so grateful for the warm welcome this community has given me. I love bringing people together and sparking excitement around creativity, and this little idea already feels like it has the potential to grow into something really special.
If you’d like to join us for one of our community meet-ups, feel free to follow my fabric shop’s Facebook page—I keep it updated regularly with all our happenings.
Thank you for an amazing first six months, sweet friends. Groveton, Texas—and its people—have truly captured my heart. 💛
